Joseph earned an OOBR Award for playing Biondello and Curtis (The Taming of the Shrew). David Mackler of the Off-Off-Broadway Review (OOBR) declared Mr. Smnall to be "a character actor’s character actor. He has worked with or performed at; Kings County Shakespeare Company, X-Pat Theatre, The English Channel in Paris, American Globe Theatre, Theatre Ten Ten. Hawk & Handsaw, Jean Cocteau Repertory at its zenith, Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, Confluences in Paris, William Carlos Williams Center for the Arts in New Jersey and at the Medicine Show Theatre in New York, Shakespeare on the Sound in Connecticut, at the Arkansas Rep.
Mr. Small played leading roles in several independent short films: Senator Ronald "Ronnie" Pudding in For the Love of Pudding, winner of the Best Acting Award at the 2006 48-Hour Film Project; Plushy, The Mood Swingers and Soup & The Dead. He was the lead actor in a long series of television commercials for America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses.
